"A good face they say, is a letter of recommendation."

I have had the good fortune of working with Kerchanin for the last 6 weeks. She came to the Dean’s Suite on a temporary assignment and has been an excellent worker while here. From the very first day, she started right in offering to work on any projects and eagerly undertook all that was given to her. She is a remarkable producer of work – able to figure things out on her own and willing to work independently.
Kerchanin has a very friendly style and people gravitate to her. She is able to remember conversations, faces and names and was quickly engaging our faculty, staff and students. She undertakes projects with a sophistication that would normally be exhibited by someone who has been on staff for an extended time. She can think on her feet and has high confidence in her
talents so she is not intimidated by the scope of projects or challenges. She always finished any work assigned to her in a timely and highly efficient manner.
Kerchanin is customer service oriented and handled all phone calls and personal equests with ease. She is extremely bright and, as time progressed, took on more challenging assignments within our office. Her writing and grammar skills were a significant asset as she was able to assist our Communications and Marketing Department with their weekly newsletters.
I truly believe that Kerchanin could take on any job and handle it with grace. It was been a great pleasure to work with her and she will be missed. I would not hesitate to give her a very highly rated recommendation and invite you to contact me if I can provide additional insight.

I had the pleasure of supervising Kerchanin Allen during her summer 2012 book
publicity internship in the marketing department of the University of North Carolina Press. I found Kerchanin to be professional, personable, capable, inquisitive, creative, efficient, focused, self-directed, and able to apply her significant work and classroom experience to her role as a publicity intern.
During her four months at the Press, Kerchanin quickly became an integral part of our publicity team, and her duties and responsibilities were quite varied. Perhaps most notably, Kerchanin developed questions for several author Q&As that were key elements of the promotional campaigns for a number of important UNC Press titles. Kerchanin' s questions for each book (and the authors' responses to them) have been used on our website as "author spotlights," as well on the books' individual pages on the UNC Press website, and in their digital press kits.
Another of Kerchanin's responsibilities was to read and evaluate reviews received for all
titles published by the Press, to evaluate the tenor of each review, and to select quotes
from these reviews (as appropriate) to use in our print and online marketing efforts.
Kerchanin could be relied upon to select excellent quotes that summed up each review, and her assessments were always fair and accurate. She efficiently processed hundreds of these reviews~ many of which were geared for scholarly and specialized audiences~during her time at the Press. Her contributions were highly valued and essential.
Book publicity is a hectic job that demands attention to detail and exceptional data entry and record keeping skills. Kerchauin exhibited solid performance in these areas, and her help was essential to our ability to keep up with the mailing of review copies and distribution of other publicity materials. Kerchanin was frequently asked to tum her
attention from one project to another as priorities changed, and she was always cheerful and flexible about doing so.
In short, Kerchanin was a wonderful colleague, and her summer at UNC Press passed far too quickly! I have no doubt that Kerchanin has the aptitude, intellectual curiosity, collegiality, and work ethic necessary to succeed in whatever career she chooses, and I give her my highest and unqualified recommendation. Sincerely,
Regina M. Mahalek
